A delightful blend of tender beef, fresh basil, and vibrant vegetables, perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a special occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 500 grams (1 lb) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, sliced (red or green)
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon chili flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooked jasmine rice, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the ingredients by slicing the beef thinly against the grain, mincing the garlic, and chopping the vegetables.
- Marinate the beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper for 15-20 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and stir-fry the minced garlic for about 30 seconds.
- Add the marinated beef to the skillet and stir-fry for 3-4 minutes until browned and cooked through.
- Toss in the sliced bell pepper and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes. Add the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and chili flakes, mixing well. Stir in the fresh basil leaves until they wilt.
Notes
- Don’t overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
- Make sure the oil is hot before adding the beef to prevent steaming.
- Use fresh basil for the best flavor; dried basil won’t work.
- Slice the beef thinly for quick cooking.
- Prep all ingredients before starting to cook.
- Adjust the sauces to your taste for a personalized flavor.
