Description
A delightful Rustic Fig & Walnut Galette that combines the sweetness of figs with the crunch of walnuts, featuring a flaky crust.
Ingredients
- Fresh figs – 8-10, halved
- Walnuts – 1/2 cup, roughly chopped
- All-purpose flour – 1 1/2 cups
- Unsalted butter – 1/2 cup (1 stick), cold and cubed
- Sugar – 1/4 cup, plus extra for sprinkling
- Salt – 1/4 teaspoon
- Ice water – 3-4 tablespoons
- Egg – 1, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter and work it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Gradually add the ice water, mixing gently until the dough comes together. Form into a disk, wrap in plastic, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Roll out the chilled dough into a rough circle about 12 inches in diameter and transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- In a bowl, combine the halved figs and chopped walnuts, sprinkle with sugar, and toss gently.
- Arrange the fig and walnut mixture in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges over the filling, pleating as you go.
- Brush the edges with the beaten egg and sprinkle with extra sugar.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the figs are bubbly.
- Let cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
- To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 10 minutes.
- For longer storage, wrap tightly and freeze for up to three months.
