Description

Homemade nougat bars are a delightful treat that combines a chewy texture with a sweet, nutty flavor, perfect for celebrations or as gifts.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 cup toasted almonds, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 cup shelled pistachios, roughly chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 oz dark chocolate, chopped (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your pan by lining an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper and lightly greasing it.
  2. Cook the sugar mixture by combining granulated sugar and honey in a saucepan over medium heat until dissolved, then boil until it reaches 250°F (120°C).
  3. Whip the egg whites in a large mixing bowl until soft peaks form.
  4. Carefully pour the hot sugar mixture into the whipped egg whites while beating until thick and glossy, then fold in the nuts and vanilla.
  5. Pour the nougat mixture into the prepared pan and let it cool for at least 2 hours.
  6. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth.
  7. Cut the nougat into bars, dip each in melted chocolate, and place on a wire rack.
  8. Let the chocolate set at room temperature or refrigerate for 15-20 minutes.
