Description

Healthy Air Fryer Churros are a delightful twist on a classic treat, offering a crispy exterior and a soft, fluffy interior, made without deep frying for a guilt-free indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil (melted, plus extra for greasing)
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate (for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease the basket with coconut oil.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, coconut sugar, ground cinnamon, baking powder, and salt. Whisk until well blended.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix the almond milk, vanilla extract, and melted coconut oil until combined.
  4. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, portion out the batter and roll it into small balls (about 1 inch in diameter).
  6. Place the churro bites in the preheated air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. While the churro bites are cooking, mix together 1/4 cup of coconut sugar and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  8. Once cooked, remove the churro bites and roll them in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until fully coated.
  9. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the melted dark chocolate over the coated churro bites.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • Store churros in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days.
  • For freezing, place churros in a freezer-safe bag and reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
  • Experiment with different spices in the sugar coating for unique flavors.
