Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup (225g) packed brown sugar
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- ½ cup (90g) chocolate chips or nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
- Add egg and vanilla extract. Mix until well incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
- Optionally, chill the dough in the fridge for 30–60 minutes for better texture.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Scoop dough into rounded balls and place on the sheet, spaced a few inches apart.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers are soft.
- Let cool on the sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use room-temperature butter and egg for best results.
- Don’t overmix the dough to avoid tough cookies.
- Spoon flour into the measuring cup for accuracy.
- Chilling the dough helps prevent excess spreading.
- Customize with spices like nutmeg or ginger, or add nuts for texture.
