Description

A delightful treat featuring soft, chewy cookies with a rich flavor from brown butter and maple syrup, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and nutty.
  2. In a large bowl, mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, and maple syrup. Add browned butter and mix well, then beat in the eggs.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  4. Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. While the dough is chilling, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  6. In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Scoop the chilled dough into 1 ½ tablespoon portions and roll each portion into a smooth ball. Roll the dough balls in the cinnamon-sugar mixture until evenly coated.
  7. Place the coated dough balls on the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set but still soft.

Notes

  • Don’t skip browning the butter; it adds essential flavor.
  • Make sure to chill the dough to prevent spreading.
  • Use a cookie scoop for even sizes.
  • Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  • For freezing, wrap each cookie in plastic wrap and place in a freezer bag for up to three months.
