Baked Falafel Balls with Tzatziki are a delightful treat that combines crispy texture with a burst of flavor. These little balls are made from chickpeas and herbs, making them a healthy option for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (plus more for brushing)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber, grated and excess moisture squeezed out
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Fresh dill or mint (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, combine chickpeas, minced garlic, chopped onion, parsley, cumin, coriander, flour, baking powder, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Pulse until the mixture is well combined but still slightly chunky.
  3. Using your hands, shape the mixture into small balls, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed balls on the prepared baking sheet.
  4. Lightly brush the tops of the falafel balls with olive oil to help them crisp up in the oven.
  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through, until the falafel are golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  6. While the falafel are baking, prepare the tzatziki. In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth. Adjust seasoning to taste.
  7. Once the falafel are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly. Serve the warm falafel balls on a platter with a generous drizzle of tzatziki around them. Garnish with fresh dill or mint if desired.
